Arthritis is one of the most common diseases in the world today. The knee is among the most commonly involved joints with arthritis, and can be one of the most serious affecting many aspects of an individual's quality of life. Patients with arthritis of the knee are susceptible to complications from other medical conditions, as they are more likely to live a sedentary lifestyle and are more often obese. Effective treatment for arthritis is a priority of orthopedic surgeons.

Orthovisc Injections - Motor Oil for the Arthritic Knee Joint
Thanks to Orthovisc injections, chronic pain in your knees and other joints caused by osteoarthritis are no longer a fact of life. Arthritic joints can now be 'lubricated' using a technique called visco-supplementation. Hyaluronan, the name of the substance in Orthovisc, is secreted by cells in the cartilage of joints. Hyaluronan is one of the major molecular components of joint fluid, also called synovial fluid, and it gives the joint fluid, its viscous, slippery quality. The high viscosity of synovial fluid allows for the cartilage surfaces of joints to glide upon each other in a smooth fashion. By injecting Orthovisc in a knee, some people consider this a so-called joint lubrication. This is why you may hear of Orthovisc as 'motor oil' for the knee joint.
Orthovisc is indicated for the treatment of knee pain in osteoarthritis of the knee for those who have failed to respond to more conservative therapy. Orthovisc is injected directly into the knee joint to restore the cushioning and lubricating properties of normal joint fluid. Healthy Trust uses ultrasound to give an accurate diagnosis and help guide the needle to the correct target area which helps provide the best results for the patient. Studies show that injections that are not guided by ultrasound have a much lower success rate.
Intra-articular and Trigger Point and Bursae Injections
Trigger point injections may be used to treat many painful soft-tissue conditions. Intra-articular aspiration or injection of the knee is indicated to obtain fluid for analysis, treat painful osteoarthritis, or relieve a tense effusion. Injection of a corticosteroid along with a local anesthetic may also be helpful in relieving symptoms of hip bursitis.
Sacroiliac Joint Injections
The sacroiliac joint is a large joint in your lower back and buttocks region. When the joint becomes painful, it can cause pain in its immediate region or it can refer pain into your groin, abdomen, hip, buttock or leg. A sacroiliac joint injection serves several purposes. First by placing numbing medicine into the joint, the amount of immediate pain relief you experience will help confirm or deny the joint as a source of your pain. That is, if you obtain complete relief of your main pain while the joint is numb it means this joint is more likely than not your pain source. Furthermore, time-release cortisone will be injected into the joint to reduce any presumed inflammation, which on many occasions can provide long-term pain relief.
